HEALTH & SAFETY

We recognise the hazards of construction and operational railways demand our utmost respect and that we have the opportunity to influence our environment for the better. Health and safety is therefore the top priority in all our thinking. Through this we commit to ensuring a healthy and safe working environment for all employees, clients and the travelling public.

Our procedures have been developed over the years by senior management and HSQE professionals. We regularly review them to ensure they remain relevant for the business and compliant with the latest legislation and client requirements. We consult our designers, project managers, engineers, supervisors and site operatives to help us make changes that benefit the team. We encourage staff, through incentivisation schemes, to identify innovations and report close calls.

Our systems capture data from a wide range of sources such as inspections & audits, incidents, lessons learned exercises, employee & client feedback and non-conformance. This allows us to analyse trends and respond to patterns. It helps us to increase learning and drive down incidents across our projects.

Audits constantly show us new opportunities and help us to continuously improve. Lead auditor trained staff ensure our ongoing compliance with ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001 and the other accreditations we hold. Our team of HSQE professionals carry out routine inspections and tours to evaluate compliance and provide important mentoring to our site teams. This provides confidence to clients showing that we continually monitor our activities and strive to improve.

Empowering staff with the knowledge to grow and develop their skills is an important part of our ethos. We have in-house professionals who provide HSQE training supported by external providers to ensure staff are kept up to date. Our competence management system provides a structure for staff to acquire and deploy new skills as well as helping to prevent unsafe practises.

If you would like to discuss a safety concern please email hsqe@fourway.co.uk. This is read by the HSQE team.
